Eat, Clean, Spin

Happy "Standard Time" day.  What a great invention.  You go to bed on a Saturday night and wake the next day to find you have an extra hour to sleep in!  When we woke this morning at the old 8:00am to find it was only 7:00, we immediately went right back to sleep.  Even Mimi slept in to the old 9:00am, which has only happened once or twice before.  Brilliant, brilliant day.  If only we could switch to "Standard Time" every day.  I suppose there are downsides to this.  Beyond eventually living in darkness, I suppose we'd all go nuts from resetting our clocks.

Though we kept close home, this past week was full of new experiences for Mimi.

She's taken it upon herself to help with the household cleaning.  She began with a thorough scrub of her new potty, which, unfortunately, she hasn't quite figured out how to use.  She has, however, begun to follow her mother into the bathroom clutching her potty and screaming "bah-bee" at her heels.  Hopefully she'll soon put two and two together.  I would love for the house to be a diaper-free zone.
She's also keen on dry mopping the floor.  Granted, she's only concerned with a very specific, 3-foot section of the living room, but it's better than nothing.
On the food front, Mimi had her first barbecue the other night.  At first glance, the beef rib was a bit intimidating.
But, eventually, Mimi's genes kicked in and she went to work.  That's my baby.
And, like every good rib eater, she had no idea how her hands would ever be clean again once she had finished.
Barbecue wasn't the only first on the food front, though.  Mimi thoroughly enjoyed her first slice of "pizza for breakfast."  My pride knew no bounds.  This is unequivocal proof that there's a bit of American in my predominantly Japanese looking daughter.  Her mother, who scorns pizza for breakfast, was less enthused.

Lastly, she discovered how to make herself dizzy.  This isn't necessarily the most welcome new-found skill - I never thought I'd have to re-baby proof the house because my toddler was getting herself, for all intents and purposes, drunk - but it has fun to watch.

OK, if you are going to have her spin and fall, at least clear the area. :) Too funny.

Oh how lovely it is when they start entertaining themselves . . . and us!
